Study finds rapid impact on immune system within two weeks of switching to vegan or ketogenic diets, revealing distinct immune response changes and altered gut microbiomes.

A recent study by the National Institutes of Health discovered that switching to a vegan or ketogenic diet rapidly impacts one's immune system. Researchers closely monitored and observed distinct changes in individuals when switching between the two diet styles in a period of two weeks. The vegan diet was found to prompt responses linked to innate immunity, the body's first line of defense against pathogens, while the keto diet led to responses associated with adaptive immunity, a pathogen-specific defense built through daily life exposure and vaccinations. Furthermore, shifts in the participants' microbiomes, or the communities of bacteria living in their gut, were observed.
