U.S. government disables parts of Chinese hacking network Volt Typhoon.

The U.S. government has reportedly launched an operation targeting a widespread Chinese hacking campaign that compromised thousands of internet-connected devices. According to two Western security officials and one person familiar with the matter, the Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation sought and received legal authorization to disable aspects of the Chinese hacking operation, known as Volt Typhoon. Intelligence officials have expressed concern that the campaign forms part of a wider effort to compromise Western critical infrastructure, potentially allowing China to remotely disrupt key facilities in the Indo-Pacific region related to U.S. military operations.
