Ontario is refurbishing Pickering Nuclear Generating Station to extend its operation and meet electricity demand, with completion expected in the mid-2030s.

The Ontario government has announced plans to refurbish the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station, extending its life by decades to meet increasing electricity demand. The project, subject to approval by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, will cost approximately $2 billion for engineering and design work and is expected to be completed in the mid-2030s. The refurbishment could create thousands of new jobs, generate 2,000 megawatts of electricity, and increase the province's GDP by $19.4 billion over 11 years.
