Michigan's Secretary of State, Jocelyn Benson, supports reintroducing driver's education programs in public schools and offering grants for financially disadvantaged teens.

Michigan's Secretary of State, Jocelyn Benson, is advocating for the return of driver's education programs to public schools across the state. Since the privatization of driver's ed in Michigan 20 years ago, parents have been responsible for finding qualified instructors and paying for their teen's instruction out of pocket. According to Benson's office, there has been a 10% decline in the number of students with a driver's license since 2000. In addition to reintroducing driver's education to schools, Benson is proposing grants for teens who cannot afford private lessons.
