Georgia's Port of Brunswick set a record for automobile shipments in 2023 with a 15% increase, driven by a $262m expansion investment by the Georgia Ports Authority.

In 2023, Georgia's seaports set a record by handling over 775,000 automobiles, a 15% increase from the previous year, while experiencing a 16% decline in container trade. The Port of Brunswick saw a rise in automobile shipments, while the Port of Savannah experienced a drop in container trade. Georgia Ports Authority CEO Griff Lynch plans to make Brunswick the top U.S. port for automobiles by 2026, investing $262 million to expand its auto business. The increase in automobile shipments is attributed to an increase in U.S. auto sales and Georgia's efforts to become a hub for electric vehicle production.
