American Airlines lays off 656 employees, forming a new Customer Success team for improved support, as part of a contact center reorganization affecting 8.2% of customer service workers.

American Airlines is planning to lay off 656 employees in order to reorganize and improve its customer service team. The affected employees are part of the company's 8,000 customer service-related positions, with roles in Phoenix and Dallas-Fort Worth being eliminated. American Airlines will create a new division called the "customer success team," hiring 135 workers for this team. Laid-off employees will be given support to apply for positions within the new team or other open positions within the airline, as well as severance and job placement support.
