The number of people aged over 100 in England and Wales has more than doubled in the past 20 years, with a total of 15,120 centenarians recorded as of mid-2022. This is the largest number of centenarians on record, a 26% increase in five years, and a doubling since 2002. Four out of five centenarians in England and Wales are female, but this percentage has decreased from 86% in 2012 and 89% in 2002.
