Survey shows 20% of Americans choosing shoulder-season travel.

The Intrepid Travel's 2024 Outlook Survey revealed that nearly one in five Americans will travel less due to financial reasons. To save money and escape crowded areas, Americans are turning to shoulder season travel. CNBC Travel analyzed hotel rates in popular destinations such as Kyoto, the Maldives, Italy, Dubai, and New York City, comparing shoulder and peak season prices for entry-level rooms for two travelers, inclusive of most taxes. Traveling right before the rainy season starts in the Maldives can lead to significant cost savings in hotel fees. However, New York City saw shoulder season rates surpass peak season prices. Overall, the boundary between high and shoulder seasons is becoming less clear, resulting in diminished savings for travelers.
