Kansas plans to establish a psychiatric hospital in southwest Wichita.

Kansas has decided to construct a new state psychiatric hospital in southwest Wichita to fulfill the growing need for inpatient mental health services and to assess and treat people held in the Sedgwick County Jail. The South Central Regional Psychiatric Hospital will offer at least 50 inpatient treatment beds, potentially opening by 2027. The $40 million project has been allocated $15 million from state funds and $25 million in federal COVID-19 relief funding. The Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services will own, secure, and manage the facility.
