Western Australian state government provides free weekday school transport for 30,000 students, starting Feb 6, and extends free public transport every Sunday to support local small businesses.

The Western Australian government has introduced free public transport for school students on weekdays and for the wider community on Sundays to ease the cost of living amid rising interest rates and inflation. The initiative, beginning from Monday, will benefit around 30,000 students with a Student SmartRider card, who could save up to $560 annually. The government expects that the free public transport on Sundays, starting February 4, will benefit local small businesses, particularly those in cities, by attracting more visitors.
