Navy boat "Chaparral" broke loose, drifted onto Sugar Beach during a storm, Hawaii DLNR considers $1M+ cost options for removal.

The Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources is weighing its options for removing a grounded Navy boat in Kihei. The former Navy torpedo boat, "Chaparral", broke loose from its mooring during a winter storm on January 9th and drifted onto Sugar Beach. The state says there are no good options for removing the vessel, which could cost over $1 million.
