Maharashtra govt designates blood relatives of Maratha Kunbi caste as Kunbis, issuing certificates based on family ties and marriage within same caste.

The Maharashtra government has announced a notification to recognize blood relatives of Maratha community members with documented Kunbi caste records as Kunbis. Kunbis, an agricultural community, fall under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category. The notification requires submission of an affidavit to establish family relations with blood relatives such as uncles, nephews, and other family members, as well as relations formed through marriages within the same caste in previous generations. This decision was made in response to demands from Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange, who has been advocating for Kunbi certificates for all Marathas.
