SRT plans to extend Bangkok-Nong Khai train service to Vientiane in April, with Thai and Lao authorities working on immigration procedures and Lao drivers trained to operate Vientiane-bound trains.

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) plans to extend its Bangkok-Nong Khai train service to Vientiane in April, with train operations starting from the Thanaleng station in Laos to the new Khamsavath station in Vientiane. Thai and Lao authorities are working on immigration procedures, requiring document checks only once for passengers' convenience. Lao train drivers have been trained to operate the Vientiane-bound trains at the Nong Khai station to prevent Thai drivers from being prosecuted in Laos. The Bangkok-Nong Khai train service will be renamed Bangkok-Vientiane (Khamsavath) upon the extension's commencement.
