South African man jailed for smuggling rhino horns.

A South African man has been sentenced to two years in jail for smuggling rhino horns into Singapore. The 33-year-old, Gumede Sthembiso Joel, was arrested in 2022 while transiting through Singapore en route to Laos. He had 20 rhino horns in his possession, which were determined to be from 15 endangered white rhinoceroses and two critically endangered black rhinoceroses. The horns were valued at over S$1.2 million, making this the largest seizure of rhino horns in Singapore's history.
