Melanie Safka, known as "The First Lady of Woodstock," has passed away at the age of 76. She was known for her hits in the 1970s, including "Brand New Key" and "Lay Down (Candles in the Rain). Her children, Leilah, Jeordie, and Beau Jarred, confirmed her death in a Facebook post. Fans are asked to remember her by lighting a candle at 10 p.m. CT on Wednesday. In 2019, Melanie reflected on playing Woodstock, recalling an out-of-body experience and not being altered by drugs. She was reportedly working on an album full of cover songs, including covers of Morrissey's "Ouija Board Ouija Board" and Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt."
