Invasive ants disrupt savannah ecology, forcing lions to search for alternative prey.

A study published in Science reveals that an invasive insect in Kenya's Ol Pejeta Conservancy is disrupting the ecological web of lions, elephants, zebras, buffalo, ants, and trees. The insect has caused a domino effect, limiting lions' ability to hunt zebras and causing them to pursue larger buffalo. Other major ecosystem shifts include the loss of bird habitat and declining soil health.
