Convicted felon Trevor Byrne appeals 2021 armed robbery conviction due to improper CCTV ID process and challenges Detective Garda Patrick McDonagh's identification evidence.

Trevor Byrne, a 44-time convicted criminal, is appealing his 2021 armed robbery conviction, claiming that the proper identification procedures were not followed when he was identified from CCTV footage. Byrne was convicted for the 2010 robbery of a Boylesports bookie in Swords, Co Dublin, where he hijacked a woman's car at gunpoint and threatened to kill her. His defense argues that the lack of contemporaneous notes taken by police officers during the identification process renders the conviction unsafe, and that Detective Garda Patrick McDonagh's identification evidence should not have been admitted in the trial. The Court of Appeal will continue to hear the ongoing appeal.
