Saskatchewan judge sentences ex-WHL coach Bernard Lynch to 3 years for 1988 sexual assault and assault of a teen player.

A Saskatchewan judge has sentenced Bernard Lynch, a former Western Hockey League coach, to three years in federal prison for inappropriately touching and hitting a teenage player in 1988. Lynch, who was an assistant coach with the Regina Pats hockey team, was convicted of sexual assault and assault of a 17-year-old in December. The judge stated that Lynch took advantage of the youth and the culture of silence in hockey and that the evidence provided by the victim was straightforward and truthful. Crown prosecutor Chris White hopes the sentence brings closure to the victim.
