A judge blocked JetBlue's $3.8 billion acquisition of Spirit Airlines, citing a threat to competition.

In accordance with a Justice Department lawsuit, the U.S. District Judge dismissed JetBlue Airways' attempt to acquire Spirit Airlines, ruling that the $3.8 billion deal would hurt consumers by lessening competition. Judge William G. Young said in his decision that the merger would probably hurt customers who depended on Spirit's low-cost business model.
