A silver coin dating back 2,550 years that was discovered by archaeologists in the Judean Hills sheds light on the use of early coins.
The Judean Hills are home to a 2,550-year-old silver coin from the Persian era, which dates between the sixth and fifth centuries BCE, according to archaeologists from the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA). This coin, which was discovered with an iron arrowhead from the First Temple era, sheds important light on the change from measuring silver pieces to using coins for commerce. The find, which is unique in the nation, is a part of an early coinage series that was produced in ancient Greece, Cyprus, and Turkey.
