Researchers are starting to test a vaccine on humans for the horrifying but not immediately lethal Nipah virus.

Scientists at the University of Oxford are testing a world-first Nipah virus vaccine with human trials underway. The Nipah virus, first identified in 1998, has no approved vaccines or treatments currently. Successful trials could result in the first-ever vaccine for this devastating disease. The Nipah virus, primarily found in South Asia, has a fatality rate of up to 75% and can be transmitted from animals, contaminated food, or directly. The vaccine uses the same technology as the Covid-19 vaccine developed by the same team at Oxford.
