Drainage firm fined after man buried alive in 'death trap'.

A Waikato earthmoving contractor, R&L Drainage Ltd, was fined $275,000 after a trench they were working on collapsed, burying a worker under 20 cubic metres of dirt. The WorkSafe investigation found that the on-site safety standards were extremely poor, and that the incident was preventable. The worker, who suffered severe injuries and now lives with PTSD, had to be dug out by his colleague using his hands and a spade.
