On January 2, 2024, a Japan Airlines plane caught fire after colliding with a coast guard aircraft at Tokyo's Haneda Airport. All 379 passengers and crew members on board the Japan Airlines airplane, flight 516 from New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido Prefecture to Tokyo's Haneda Airport, evacuated safely before the plane was entirely engulfed in flames. The Japanese coast guard, which operated the other plane, said its pilot had escaped but five crewmembers are missing.
