Alan Garber has been appointed as the acting president of Harvard University by the board of trustees.
Harvard's provost, Alan M. Garber, has been appointed as the university's interim president, following the resignation of Claudine Gay. Garber, an economist and physician, has a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard and an M.D. from Stanford. He has served as Harvard’s provost since 2011 and has been instrumental in guiding the school through the COVID-19 pandemic.
