The European Union visa-free travel for Kosovo enters into force.
On Monday, the European Union's visa-free travel regime for Kosovo officially began. This allows Kosovars to travel to the Schengen zone without a visa for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. With a population of 1.8 million, Kosovo was the last of the six Western Balkans countries to receive this waiver. The government of Kosovo views this reform as a step toward full recognition and a boost for their ambition to join the EU. However, five countries, including Cyprus, Greece, Romania, Slovakia, and Spain, do not recognize Kosovo's independence from Serbia, nor does Serbia itself.
